There are vacancies on two town advisory boards because of resignations, and all nine members of the Youth Advisory Board must be appointed this summer because they serve one-year terms.
There is one vacancy for an in-town seat which expires at the end of 2010 on the Cemetery Advisory Board. The board advises the town commissioners and town staff about cemetery policies and improvements. It meets at 7 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of each month in town hall.
There are two vacancies on the Human Relations Council, one expiring at the end of this year and one expiring at the end of 2011. The HRC encourages understanding and good will between all town residents and sponsors Good Neighbor Day each fall. It meets at 7 p.m. on the fourth Thursday.
Current members of the Youth Advisory Board may apply for a second term. The board positions are open to high school students, and five of the nine board members must live in town. The YAB researches issues of importance to young people, tells the commissioners about their findings and holds informational and/or fun events for young people in the area. It meets the third Saturday at 9 a.m. at Flaherty Park Community Center. The YAB will hold its first meeting Aug. 15 and its year coincides with the school year.
All members of these advisory boards are appointed by the Board of Commissioners.
If you are interested in serving, you can get an application by calling Town Clerk Deeda Harris at 554-6190, sending her a message at dharris@wakeforestnc.gov or visiting the town’s website at http://www.wakeforestnc.gov.
Applicants for the Youth Advisory Board should attend the town commissioners’ July 7 work session to be introduced and describe why they wish to serve. The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. The commissioners will announce the appointments during their business meeting on July 21.
Completed applications for the cemetery board and the Human Relations Council must be received at town hall no later than 5 p.m. Friday, July 17. The commissioners will interview candidates during their work session on Tuesday, Aug. 4, and make the appointments at their regular meeting on Aug. 18.
