News from the farmers' market
The Wake Forest Farmers’ Market does provide shoppers with all the good vegetables and fruits from local gardens and farms, but there is also much more and often a surprise vendor.
Regular vendors offer granola, breads, baked goods, handmade soaps and lotions, hand-spun wool, pottery, fine arts, jewelry, garden plants, jams and jellies, sun bonnets and aprons, embroidered tea towels, and jewelry.
Then you have local farmers who sell their pasture-raised beef, pork, lamb and poultry, their goat cheese crafted with flavorings or aged like cheddar or brie, the fresh and dried herbs, the eggs from free-range chickens, the honey and honey products along with beeswax candles, and the beautiful in-season flowers.
When you have shopped for all of these products you will want to stock up with field peas, peppers, tomatoes, eggplant, potatoes, onions, cucumbers and beets for next week’s meals.
On Saturday, Aug. 21, the music will be by Brittany George, and the market will be as usual in the depot parking lot along South White Street from 8 a.m. to noon.
