Music will be everywhere Friday night

Published Jun 10, 2009

If you don’t end up tapping your feet, even singing along Friday night during Art After Hours in downtown Wake Forest, you might want to have your hearing or your music IQ checked.
Most of the music will be outdoors unless there is a thunderstorm.
On the new stage in the gazebo parking lot along South White Street, Wake Forest Coffee Company owner Albert Barneto says Arielle Bryant will be featured. She just released a CD, he said, and she has played at the coffeehouse several times.
There will also be an open mike night on the new stage, sponsored by Wake Forest Music.
Barneto is sponsoring Mike Pope, beginning at 8 p.m., in front of the coffeehouse. Pope plays a wide variety of music on his acoustic guitar.
Inside, Barneto will feature the art work by Mary Benejam’s Advanced Art Class for the month of June.
Students will also be featured at the Sunflower Studio on East Jones Avenue where Linda Burrell will show off the work her students, ages 6 to 22, have done. “We will have watercolors, pastels, mixed media, pencil and acrylics on display in our guest gallery,” Burrell said.
Out on the porch, the Possum Road Blue Grass Band will perform. If the weather is fine, there will be chairs and gliders on the lawn.
At Wake Forest Art & Frame, owner Beth Massey is featuring the art of Stephen Filarsky and Theresa Brown, a husband and wife team who both specialize in portraits. Massey invites everyone to meet the artists and enjoy some refreshments.
It will be Poetry Open Mike Night at the Storytellers Bookstore next to the Underpass, and owner Drew Bridges invites all poets, budding or mature, to share their work.
The studios and shops will have wine tastings and refreshments.
The businesses that will be open for this monthly event that runs from to 9 p.m. include The Red Door, the Next Consignment Shop, Sprig, The Forks Cafeteria and GC5.
The Downtown Revitalization Corporation, the event’s sponsor, will provide free horse and carriage rides.
Come join the fun Friday night!
