Get rid of fescue, save water.
Do you want to have a great looking lawn and pay less for water?
Then go pick up the free Bermuda grass see the town will give you beginning Friday.
The hitch is that you have to remove the fescue from your lawn. Fescue is a cool season grass that is not well-suited to survive in our long hot summers. To keep it alive in July, August and September, homeowners have to water it constantly, about one inch each week.
The Town of Wake Forest is giving away the Bermuda seed as part of its efforts to promote water conservation and protect our water supply, Falls Lake.
The town will give away enough seed to each homeowner – first-come, first-served – to cover 8,000 square feet of lawn. You must agree to remove the fescue, and this program is not for residents who already have Bermuda or other warm season grass on their lawns.
To schedule a time to pick up your free grass seed, call or e-mail Betty Pearce at the town’s Operations Center on Friendship Chapel Road, 554-6120 or bpearce@wakeforestnc.gov.
