Funk, jazz and blues in the park

Published May 6, 2009

The name is ZEGG, which stands for Zero Excuses, Get Groovin’, and the music this five-person group performs is a mixture of jazz, rock, bluegrass, funk and four-part harmonies.
They will be in stage in Holding Park for the fourth in the six-part free concert series, Six Sundays in Spring. It has become a Wake Forest tradition to sit on the grass or a blanket, chat with neighbors and friends, throw a Frisbee or too and enjoy a wonderful concert on a Sunday afternoon.
The concert will be from 5 to 7 p.m., and it is sponsored by the Wake Forest Cultural Arts Association and the Town of Wake Forest. Holding Park is on South Main Street next to the Community House and the swimming pool.
You will find food – drinks and snacks – sold by the Wake Forest Optimist Club, Blue Star Moms and the VFW Chuck Wagon.
In case of rain, the organizers have arranged for an alternate venue, the Festival Park Warehouse on South White Street.
The final two concerts offer two different schools of music.
Big Ron Hunter will bring a little bit of blues and a whole lot of soul to the concern on May 17.
The final concert on May 24 will feature the big band sound of the Casablanca Orchestra.
