Narron Contracting out of Middlesex has finished paving South Franklin Street through the Renaissance Plan area – and some motorists are calling it lumpy or bumpy.
This week Deputy Town Manager Roe O’Donnell agreed with that description. “We are evaluating the ‘lumpiness’ of the final pavement for specification sufficiency. We are not happy, but we’ll see if it meets the minimum spec.”
The project is not complete, lacking landscaping and lighting. Also, Narron has to reseed the areas where dirt and stone were placed over the median to allow for cross-over traffic during last week’s paving.
O’Donnell said there will be two area in the median in the completed project which will look like grass but which will be rated for traffic. “Those are to facilitate emergency vehicles only to serve the apartment complexes and Franklin Academy.” Those “grass-pave” areas will be done under a new contract.
Also, there will be a new contract for the landscaping and hardscaping. The town has received bids for those and will probably make a recommendation to the town board in May. Street lights will be constructed by Wake Forest Power.
