The North Carolina Department of Transportation and the Southeast High Speed Rail Corridor is holding a series of public hearings about the draft environmental impact study for the proposed high-speed passenger rail service between Richmond (extending on to Washington, D.C., and New York City) and Charlotte. The corridor under study is that portion between Richmond and Raleigh.
The final hearing will be Thursday, July 29, in the gym at Franklinton High School, 6948 N. Cheatham St. There will be an open house and information session from 5 to 7 p.m. and the public hearing will begin at 7 p.m. You can comment online and learn more at www.sehsr.org.

Chuck & The Waggin’Ears will perform a free bluegrass concert at E. Carroll Joyner Park on Sunday, Aug. 1. The performance will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. in the shade of the park’s pecan grove. In case of rain, the concert will be moved to the Community House on West Owen Avenue.

The Wake Forest Town Board will hold its regular monthly work session Tuesday, Aug. 3, beginning at 5:30 p.m. in town hall. The regular Planning Board meeting at 7:30 p.m. has been cancelled for lack of business.
