Color guard, big band sound Sunday

For the final concert in the Six Sundays in Spring series, the Wake Forest Cultural Arts Association will present the big band sound of the Casablanca Orchestra on May 24.
This 18-piece group from Raleigh will play everything from big band swing to jazz and blues, songs from the 1940s up through the 1990s, as well as beach music and rock and roll oldies.
The vocalist, Debbie Bennett, will remind you of Ella Fitzgerald, Rosemary Clooney, Whitney Houston and Natalie Cole.
Gail Joyner, head of the Wake Forest Cultural Arts Association which presents the series, said a color guard will also present the flag to remind people of the upcoming Memorial Day.
The concert lasts from 5 to 7 p.m. in Holding Park and is free. It has become a Wake Forest tradition to sit on the grass or a blanket, chat with neighbors and friends, throw a Frisbee or too and enjoy a wonderful concert on a Sunday afternoon. Holding Park is on South Main Street next to the Community House and the swimming pool.
You will find food – drinks and snacks – sold by the Wake Forest Optimist Club, Blue Star Moms and the VFW Chuck Wagon.
In case of rain, the organizers have arranged for an alternate venue, the Festival Park Warehouse on South White Street.
