The sentencing hearing for Wake Forest businessman and former mayor James “Jimmy” Perry Jr. has been reset for Thursday, Feb. 11, at 2 p.m. in the Terry Sanford Federal Building in Raleigh before U.S. District Court Judge Terrence Boyle. Perry faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit bribery in June 2009. The sentencing date has been delayed three times since the judge first set the date for the end of August 2009.
Perry, who was convicted of a felony in South Carolina in 1999 in connection with a conspiracy to embezzle money from a small school district.
On Oct. 7, 2008, Perry and a fellow defendant, David Lee Brady, were charged with aiding, abetting and conspiring to commit bribery and extortion as well as two counts of perjury. The charges were the result of a federal grand jury investigation that began in 2007. All of the charges except one were later dropped in exchange for a plea bargain. Perry remains free on bond.

Here is another way to help the people of Haiti. Teresa Hale of Allied Rehab sent out this message earlier this week: A group of physical therapists in the Triangle is collecting crutches, canes, walkers, and wheelchairs to ship to our injured neighbors in Haiti.  Please clean out those closets!! We can store all the items at Allied Rehab and the 900 Franklin Street building until area pick up on Saturday, Feb 13. Shipping to Haiti will most likely be through MERCI in Goldsboro.
